Why donate?

Keep Modern Poly free: We want this site to become a valuable resource for polyamorous people and their supporters.  One way to foster a welcoming atmosphere with this site is to not charge membership dues. We believe that our members will see the value in what we are trying to accomplish, and will financially support us if they are able.

How donated funds are used

• Hosting costs: Within two weeks of our official launch date, we transfered Modern Poly from cheap webhosting to a Virtual Private Server. What this means for you is that we've gone from 20-30 second pageloads to LUDICROUS SPEED pageloads! What this means for us is that our hosting bill has jumped from near-free to close to $70 a month for the amount of memory/CPU needed to keep this site fast and stable.
  
  
• Administrative/Legal Costs:  We are in the process of creating a formal business entity for Modern Poly.  The costs of creating the LLC are currently being paid for by our volunteers.
  
  
• Feeding the code monkeys: As time progresses and we become cooler and more popular, we will need to make changes to the code in order to accomodate a larger number of members (the tech geek word for this is "scalability").  This will require a lot of research, coding, and testing.  While some of our organizers have been unaffected by the recent changes in our economy and are comfortable with doing volunteer work, others are struggling with either a reduced income or involuntary unemployment.  Ideally we would like to be able to provide a livable wage to our organizers and developers that need financial support. To put it it another way: "Will Code For Food".
  
  
• Publications:  One of the goals of Modern Poly is to help members develop publications (physical and/or virtual) that can be used to bring about greater public awareness and understanding about polyamory.
